I have a few hours to kill tomorrow to kill on the way back from Sligo, wondering if the Museum in Dromod is worth a visit? I saw it from the train on the way yesterday and it looked like an interesting place to drop off. Is it opened tomorrow?

    Cheers.

Was there a few years ago, there's worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of narrow gauge diesels and the like, last time I was there their steam loco was out of ticket. There's also loads of buses if you're into that sort of thing. A small submarine too! If you're in the area anyway and not in a hurry it could be something to do. The day I was there (a long time ago now) they didn't start actual train rides till after lunch. There are couple of nice pub-restaurants down the village as well if you fancy a bit of grub beforehand.

It's open on Sundays most of the year round and yeah, it's worth a look at if only just to see the steam engine and the GNR bus. Be warned though, it's muddy and very untidy and if you have rust allergies it's not the best place to be.

It's definitely worth a visit. They're not into more "modern" preservations, so be warned. There is a 121 locomotive there, but when I naively asked about any of the K-series buses, they said that they're not really into anything after the 60's.

There isn't a 121 loco there, it's just a cut off cab of same.

Don't forget to ask the proprietor how he financed it and did all the work himself.

To be specific the cab is from 133. Only two full 121 class locos preserved (ITG's 124 and the RPSI are to get 134).

Here it is amongst all the ice cream vans and assorted, authentic narrow gauge anti-aircraft guns and aeroplanes.

i can never see the point in preserving PART of something, may as well let it go to an honourable grave.
