    Hello all

If I buy a jeep with DOE and Tax expired for 6 months will I be liable for this 6 months of tax that wasnt paid? Will I get a full 12 month DOE or just a 6 month DOE?

Thanks in advance. Going to view this jeep tomorrow and this just occurred to me and tax office closed now so cant ask:(

No you wont be liable for tax-seller may have to pay arrears or make a declaration at local Garda Station to say it was off the road.Maybe insist on him doing this before deal is done.

DOE will issue a cert for the next 12 months assuming you pass.

When you have DOE cert you can tax it for 6 months and then tax it for a year even though there is only 6 months left on DOE.You can actually get 21 months tax from a 12 month cert.Buy 3 months then 6 months then a year's tax.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for that Phoenix3. Thought there was something about declaring it was off the road alright but wasnt 100% sure.

That tip of yours about a DOE for 21 months is damn good ;) Nice one.

Its a stupid dumb thing to do.

If you are involved in an accident in a commercial vehicle you will always be asked to produce a test cert. If you don't there is a high probability you will be done for it.

There's always some catch somewhere in these things... And knowing my luck Slidey:eek:.... Which is why I tend to do things by the book anyway.

Wrote off my lovely Hilux Surf in the ice last winter. Axa would not process the claim until I produced the DOE, had a bit of a brown pants moment until I found it! I had intended to renew the Tax for a year just before the DOE was out as well... lucky.
