Air video is great you just download from the app store and download the server for your pc and you can watch your videos straight away as they re converted on the fly and you dont need to store them on the iPhone either
I know this works great through wifi but I'm not sure if you could watch them while out and about

Convert them to the preset iPhone 4 format in Handbrake, import them into iTunes, then you can just select them to sync to your iPhone.

You can just change the files to mp4 then just side click them and press open in itunes, or drag them to itunes :)

Download cinexplayer. Add the files to the app on iTunes. Hey presto. Anything you want on the phone.

I use Vuze for this it's free & it converts all media types and loads it to your itunes

Not got it in front of me but as far as I can remember from last time I used Handbrake, you just select your source file, click on iPhone 4 preset (right hand side of window), then click start.
It will save the converted (ie in mp4 format) file to the same folder as the original avi file.

Just install an App like Oplayer. It plays divx/xvid files without any problems.
    No need to convert files.
