It says following a display rather than during it. Hopefully everybody is ok.

A Red Arrow aeroplane has crashed in Dorset following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival.

The fire service confirmed they were called to an air crash at 13:50 BST near Bournemouth International Airport.

Eyewitnesses described seeing the plane plunge to the ground in a field at Throop village.

It was one of nine Red Arrows that had earlier taken part in a display over the seafront. No details are known about possible casualties.

BBC South Today producer Martin Webster, who was at the scene, said he saw only eight of the nine Red Arrows RAF display team's aircraft land on the runway following the display at the annual event.

Shaun Spencer-Perkins, who witnessed the crash from Throop Mill, said: "I heard a rushing sound and I saw a plane about 15m above the ground racing across the fields.

"It impacted and bounced across the field, made it across the river.

"Members of the public jumped into the water to search for the cockpit.

Darren Blakeman, who was watching the display, described what he saw: "We watched nine Red Arrows take off, then they did an approach from the south of the runway, they did a little display.

"After that display only eight of the airplanes landed and then there was a big siren went off at the airport, like an emergency sound, and there was a big yellow fire truck parked in the viewing area and then that rushed off with its blue lights going.

"From my scene here I can see a police helicopter and a coastguard helicopter and they're hovering in the air above the site."

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "We can confirm that we are aware of an incident involving one of the Red Arrows and we are investigating."

The plane is believed to have plunged to the ground in a field near the airport
Organisers of the Bournemouth Air Festival said events were continuing as scheduled.

All nine Red Arrows display pilots are fast jet pilots from frontline Royal Air Force squadrons.

Each aircraft can carry enough diesel and dye to create five minutes of white smoke, one minute of red and one minute of blue.

Both cockpit seats are fitted with Martin-Baker Mark 10B rocket boosted ejection seats.

Saw them just last week performing in Bristol. Was only watching from afar the wrong side of the Clifton Suspension bridge from where the display was actually happening, but was still impressive.

    Hope they are OK.

Pictures from them last week, I didn't have a better camera with me at the time as I was on the bike.

Seems from witnesses speaking so far who had been at the crash site that there wasn't any sign of the pilot and other people were searching in the river before the rescue helicopters got there. There is also a video showing their last manoeuvre over Brighton airport and you can see one of them disappear below the horizon, no sign of impact in that video though.

It does appear to have happened during the display. It will be interesting to see if it was a structural or mechanical fault that caused it.

RIP to the pilot and condolences to his family.

Could have been G-loc too. While they are very highly trained and experienced pilots, G can get the best of them at times and the Hawk is a 9G bird when clean. Happened one of the first F-16 test pilots but then again when the F-16 was the new kid on the block, pulling 9G for as long as you like till you ran out of fuel with a clean airframe and low level was unheard of.

Sincere condolences to family ,friends and comrades of pilot.
Its amazing how an aircraft crash brings out all the armchair experts in aviation accidents, commenting , speculating and making stories up within hours of a tragic incident.
Its quite clear even to a lay person that these posters are not acting in a professional manner because if they really were, they they wouldnt post up such trash.
why not wait until the real experts publish their findings?
Go back to your virtual flying games , playing at being ATCs and pretending to fly your learjets from Waterford to Galway. RESPECT!

It appears that a 737 has also crashed in Canada killing 12.

What credentials do you need to ask for respect for a fellow real aviator and his family?
Its not beyond the bond of possibilty that somone connected with him would be reading this thread ,perhaps you and your like get some kind of thrill out of speculating and blaming people.
As I said go play your games.

I think it's fair to say that everybody who posts here is an aviation enthusiast and/or involved in the indusrty and as such is sad to see such a terrible accident. I also think it's fair to say most people would have the utmost respect for anybody killed in an aviation accident. However, as aviation enthusiasts and/or professionals I think it is natural to want to know the cause of such a terrible accident and people will always have an opinion or an idea of a possible cause and want to express that. That is not disrespectful, and of course an official investigation is necessary.

All that being said, a tragic accident. Thoughts are with the family and colleagues of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging.

    RIP

Aviation and Aircraft = Discussion of Aviation and Aircraft related events and subjects.

We all without doubt respect anyone that loses their life in an air crash.

We discuss what has happened, share theories and yes engage in speculation. Eveyone has an interest in the outcome, so as long as it's respectful and as factual as possible there is no harm in that discussion to anyone. You won't find any tabloid-style crazy theories here but facts, anything other then that is always pruned or disproven through discussion.

Back on topic please if there's more to be said.

    As stated by a member of the AAIU in a lecture when I was at University;

"The Rules and Regulations of today are written in the Blood of previous generations"

So of course we are naturally going to speculate and want to find out the outcome as any incident or crash in aviation always leads to recommendations that are adapted, making the industry safer for all.
