    Love It/Hate It/Indifferent?

Came across this clip earlier and it made me wonder if it pisses the wrestlers off when someone does it. Hx3 does it for comedic effect here and it was funny, but the more its happening I kinda feel like it might get out of hand and they won't ever be able to get themselves back out of it.

Kind of a strangely worded question.

Yes wrestlers these days would like to break kayfabe as their characters usually suck & dont reflect them as people and most wrestlers arent happy about the slot they are in on the card.

I think its easily possible to break the forth wall without completly breaking kayfabe.

CM Punk is probably a good example of that as of late; he's talking to the crowd and dropping insider references, but at the same time, he's staying within the confines of the internal reality of WWE programming. With the exception of some of the references between him and Nash on Raw, most of Punk's insider bits have worked on both the smark and mark level.

Personally I love when they go smarky without breaking character. It adds more realism to the stories and thus I can invest in them easily.

I like it, when its only done now and again it gets a better reaction.

Does anyone have the clip where dx is in the ring and hhh pulls the script out of his pocket and says something like this is supposed to happen in segement 3 and who writes this crap? That was funny

    Edit: Ah found it

What is Kayfabe or the Fourth Wall?

What is Kayfabe or the Fourth Wall?

Kayfabe is about keeping the pretense that everything is real. Matches are real, the good guys & bad guys really hate each other, a person is there character etc

The fourth wall is a version of kayfabe. It is a literary or cinematic term for more or less the same thing. If say in the middle of a movie an actor says STOP or CUT, starts referring to the script or talking to the director etc then than film is breaking the fourth wall.

In short it refers to breaking character.

Rovert described it well. The most famous incident where kayfabe was broken was at madison square garden when Shawn Michaels, HHH, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash came out to the ring and celebrated together (it was Halls and Nashs last night with the company as they were going to wcw) breaking the pretense that they were all "enemies".

They are friends backstage but enemies in the ring. They took what was backstage and put it out there for the fans to see, not as part of any storyline but for real and without the approval of management.

This was shocking at the time, Highlighted by the guy in the video going nuts!

I'm that way too if Punk stays going on every week about what he said/she said it loses its impact. Punk doesn't need to do it as much either. Hope it doesn't spread into the rest of the product. Then wwe would be a very small bit like a well written episode of Tna impact. At times I have my brothers ask me whats that mean & god knows what the little jimmy types think what Vanilla Midget or Indie riffic mean

Sorry but Hacksaw Duggan and Iron Shiek being busted for drugs in the same car was more famous as it made (inter)national news.

Pffft... that's easy to keep within a story line, WWF back then could had announced The Iron Shiek Drugged and Kidnapped Hacksaw Duggan, think of the heat The Shiek would had gotten for that! :pac: :pac:
