That could easily finnish his career.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2028038/Finnish-ferry-ran-aground-captain-stuck-loo.html
A Finnish ferry has run aground while its captain was locked inside the ship's bathroom.

The tourist ferry slammed onto a rock near the shore of Finland's capital city Helsinki, coastguards said on Friday.

Officials said the captain of the boat had got stuck in the bathroom because of a jammed lock and had yelled for help.

One member of staff managed to slow the island-hopping tourist ferry down, but the vessel still crashed.

Some of the 54 passengers were bruised and tableware on the boat was broken in the incident.

There were no serious injuries reported from any of the passengers onboard.

The coastguard said they were investigating whether the captain's actions amounted to criminal endangerment.

It is unclear which company had been running the tourist ferry which crashed, or where it had been travelling from.

There has also been no further information about the amount of time the captain spent away from the controls of the boat.

But officials revealed that by the time they managed to get to the aid of the captain stuck in the bathroom, time had run out for him to prevent the ferry running aground.

Jan Sundell, head of the investigation, said: 'He was stuck in the toilet. As soon as the staff member got the door open, it was too late.'

...the captain of the boat had got stuck in the bathroom because of a jammed rock and had yelled for help...

Is that some sort of euphemism?

Shockingly shoddy reporting. They have a pic of a huge Viking Line ferry when the article sounds like it's about a small tourist boat.

Why do they need to mention that tableware on the boat was broken in the incident?

Hardly the captains fault that the toilet doors lock jammed, if ya gotta go ya gotta go. Can't exactly deprive them of using the toilet.

What size of a ferry is it???
54 passengers sounds like a tourist boat to me,and since the captain seems to be the only one that can handle the ferry,it seems even more odd??
Usually there is 2, captain and chief mate ,that handles the ferry going 6 hour shifts.
Very little info about the ferry though, the media makes it sound like a cruise ship!!!!

Apparantly, the owners of the ferry have threatened to take legal action against the captain.

    His reply "So, Suomi".

It must have been a turtle's head that caused it.

seems that the watch officer was sheltering from the breeze, on the Loo-ward wing of the bridge.
