Ive always had a hankering after a 96-99 Punto Sporting but believed the later car was an utter dog being EXTREMELY unreliable with massive ,costly failures including ECU...there still seems to be a lot of them around .So whats your experience?Does the 6th gear help MPG / fuel economy?Whats the best youd get ?45mpg ?Handling/acceleration?Revvy engine?Same as in earlier one? Thanks !

I had one years ago. There literally wasn't anything like it at the time in terms of equipment and novelty features like factory subwoofer, 6 speed box etc. All for £12500.

I can't remember how much a golf 1.4 with electric windows was but I seem to remember them being around £22k or something shocking like that, with 99 models being pretty much the same price!

I still quite like the sporting, they don't handle amazingly, a lot have been trashed, and they're not without their faults. But for a young driver looking for a small engine and lots of equipment for small change without resorting to a 106 or saxo, the sporting is as appealing now as it was 11 years ago
