Quick Visa Question

    Hi guys, just a very quick visa question;

    I'm in Thailand at the moment and I will be here until September 15th, but the visa stamp on my passport runs out on August 29th.

    Just wondering what is the easiest/cheapest way to get an extension or new visa that will last me until September 15th? I'm guessing I'll have to do some kind of border run - I'm in Phuket at the moment, not sure where we would go, maybe Malaysia?

    Really not sure what I have to do here, any advice or information would be greatly appreciated :)

    If you leave and re-enter by air you'll get a new 30 day stamp. If you re-enter by land you only get a 15 day stamp which isn't long enough for you.

    I know it's too late for you now but this is a frequent issue here. It would be much cheaper to organise an actual tourist visa before travelling to Thailand than to make border runs to add extra time.

    What will happen if I don't get a new visa and just stay here until September 15th? Will it be a big issue when I'm in the airport? Will I have to pay a fine..?

    The fine is 500 Baht per day, so probably 8,500 Baht in your case. You could pay it at the airport.That's if you get to the airport...

    If you have any dealings with the police (requiring them to examine your passport) while you're in the country illegally you'll be arrested. You could have dealings with the police for any number of reasons, including random passport checks, an accident or any sort of dispute with a Thai citizen. Getting involved with the Thai police is a really bad idea. The Land of Smiles is an alien concept to one of the world's more corrupt police forces when they have an idiot farang bang to rights.

    you can do a visa run to ranong in burma for 1500B, you will only get 15 days but that would bring you up to 13th, when departing thailand you are allowed 1 overstay day free of charge so you will only have to pay 500 when departing.

    if this doesn't appeal to you just keep you head down and don't come in to the attention of the boys in brown and pay the full fine when you leave.

    i stayed in thailand for over 2 years without a visa when i was young and crazy and just had to pay 20000B when i departed, came back into the country again a few months later and had no problems getting back in.
