Fixed penalty and penalty points for causing an collision - why it's not there?

    I was always wondering...
You get penalty points and fixed penalty for plenty of little things, like speeding, chatting on mobile, crossing continuous white line, revering into main road, etc....

All fair enough. All above are offences that as an effect might cause accident.

The only problem here is, if you eventually cause an accident, why don't they apply penalty points for it?

F.E driver A might be caught speeding 6 times over 3 years, and exceed points limit, eventually getting a driving ban.
While at the same time, driver B might cause 10 accidents (assume just property damage, no injured or killed), and still be perfectly legal on the road with clean licence, no penalty point.
    I think it's absolutely ridiculous.

I'm sure all of you should agree, that crashing into someone is way bigger offence than speeding, or talking on mobile while driving.
And as well for causing any accident, there should be penalty points issued, at least double or triple as for other offences.

    What do you think?

Because sensible things go against the grain, and would make too much sense to implement.

The points system is arse anyways

You can get 5 points for having no NCT

You get 2 points if you drive the wrong way down a motorway (into oncoming traffic)

    ??!?

A lot of people who crash get penalty points for dangerous driving and dring without due care and attention.

Lots of people who are involved in collisions (note the difference between "accident" and "collision") are prosecuted for whatever behaviour caused the collision.
While at the same time, driver B might cause 10 accidents (assume just property damage, no injured or killed), and still be perfectly legal on the road with clean licence, no penalty point.
Fender benders tend not to kill or maim people. Precious few people would have 10 collisions and not come to the attention of the Garda.

You may be confusing anecdotal and empirical evidence.

Your NCB is gone, when you cause an accident, so is your money. As someone mentioned before reckless/ dangerous driving being reported results in same, and penalty points. Would you like fine on the spot when you have an accident? No need for this, in my opinion.
