Anyone tried to get it? Pretty diffeicult. After years of trying I finally have come close enough using my Custom Shop strat and Class 5 with a few pedals. Anyone else got a close usable Hendrix tone? Id love to see what gear everyone uses to get it

I can get it on the crunch channel on my Peavey Triple XXX, that with a strat loaded with Custom Shop Fat 50's.

His tone was very inconsistent, though the live tone is usually Strat, Marshall and pedals (UniVibe, Fuzz, wah etc).
He used all sorts of different gear recording.
There is no real Hendrix "tone", just his playing style, that what gets you to instantly recognise him when you hear him.

    Good strat.
    Neck pickup.
    Good valve amp.
Heavy right hand(left in his case)

The recording process can alter the tone of an instrument to a fair degree, and make copying a certain tone elusive if not, impossible.

hendrix tone, i find, is actually easy enough to find.

for wind cries mary tone, clean tube amp, neck low/medium output pup and a strat.

Good valve amp with the mids and treble dimed and the presence/bass around 4, nice stratocaster with standard single coils.

For the overdrive, you need to be pushing power tubes, not preamp tubes. It has to sound old-school and barky, not tight and fizzy.

What helps as well is light strings and not too high action. Need to get that slinky sound and those over-the-top bends.

I have a JTM45 and a stratocaster, gets it pretty close with the right settings but it still comes down entirely to how you play.

    Expensive Route
    Fender Strat Flipped Over
    Marshell Stack
Arbiter Fuzz Face and Vox Wah Pedals

    Cheap Route

First one might set you back a few thousand, second one a few hundred

you won't sound like Hendrix without a jtm45 or plexi or something along those lines. I think Paulo will agree with me there!! ;)

Big +1. The room in which the amp was in at the time of the recording also has a big impact. I am always surprised how different the same amp can sound in a different room.

I had a Jtm45 for a couple of days and returned it because to me it wasnt loud enough. It worked well with Kt66s but to get that Hendrix tone it needs to be louder than life. Id say a nice strat with low output pickups through his signature amp the Super100Jh would be the best way to get his basic tone and then use his pedal setup. I always prefered his live tones for some reason. Right now I get a close enough substitute at low volumes with my Strat and Class 5 and his pedal setup. Im thinking about building one of the Ceritone Jtm/100 Experienced kits to finish off my sound and that would be perfect. I liked the Jtm45 I had but it was a bit too quiet when fully cranked. The cab I was using was a 15 year old Marshall 1960tv with Greenbacks I think. Sounded great. Nice low and and and vintage sound. Just my opinion :)

people seem to be forgetting the fact that he also tuned down a step and the tremelo was fairly loose
you get some tremspring tone in with the e flat tuning - this is half the battle .
