    Alcor? Sounds good already...

What's the reason for being reasonable?

    Is that an unreasonable question?

No chance. Your body is something like 90% water, I can't remember the exact percentage off-hand. Water expands when it freezes. When you are frozen the water inside your cells expands to the point that it ruptures your cell membranes.

So if they somehow managed to freeze you without killing you, and then thaw you out without killing you, the best you have to look forward to is several seconds of excruciating agony before you collapse into a pile of goo.

$200,000 to get your whole body done and ONLY $80,000 for your head :L

they currently have 106 "patients" :P

i think its a great idea but only if a friend/family also "took part" !

Yup. If I had the money. Sure why not. Not as if you can take money to the grave. The singularity will make all this irrelevant anyway.

    Scientologists are big into this.

Just what future humans need Tom Cruise and John Travolta for, I don't know.

You mean the FAQs where they guess that maybe someday somebody might possibly invent some magic technology that can undo the damage that cryonics itself causes (not to mention whatever was actually killing you in the first place) ?

I like the way that they conveniently forget to mention that if such technology existed they could just rebuild you from scratch without having to freeze you in the first place, except without them charging you huge sums of money for something they can never deliver on.

As a young man I thought about this and said "Yes, would love to go for it" but then I had kids and that put a whole perspective on things.
My answer now is "No". If I came back (or as in another thread, could live forever) and human curiosity being what it is, it would kill me to know that I survived and my kids didn't - even worse finding out when and possibly how they died. That would too much for me to cope with.
I want to go before my kids & its the way it should be. For my sake and for theirs. Let it be...

Demolition Man was a harsh and gritty view of the Orwellian future we'll face, especially for us who will choose the cryogenic route.

I don't want to live on a planet that uses 3 shells in the toilet in place of bog roll!

Assuming that Futurama is an accurate representation of the future- and I see no reason to believe otherwise - then yes. Yes I would. But only if there's an ass-kicking purple-haired cyclops waiting for me when I wake up. For which, again, I see no reason to presume otherwise. =D

I hope you know full well that this is coming out soon? (It does have Mary Elizabeth Winstead.......and looks decent enough!).

But no. Would never do it.

Honestly didn't know there was a remake on the way :o Just assumed someone with the rights to it would fancy doing the remake at some stage.

I don't know you just can't have The Thing without Kurt Russell in it for me.

I would be content enough though if they manage to get the atmosphere of the original and as you said at least it has Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Always a good thing to see her on screen!

Yes, I'm terrified of dying so anything which could allow me to live forever gets my support.

Is this the one where there is a guy strapped to a couch, and he goes crazy for someone to get him off it? -- was a hillarious scene:D if not then they have already made a remake because Im sure the movie was The Thing

I would consider this in much the same one could consider buying a lottery ticket.
The chances of it working are minute, but it's the hope that one is paying for, as opposed to the possible outcome, I think.
If one could spare the cash, of course.
