This tree is in my back garden and is getting quite tall. I'd like to keep it but trim it down, safely and without damaging it irreparably. Is it simply a matter of chopping it with a trimmer at the top and working down?

    Thanks in advance.

If you think its too large now you may be best off removing it altogether. Its only a fraction of its eventual height and lopping it will ruin the shape of the tree.

you will ruin the birch if you lop it. Looks like it's the white stemmed Betula Jaquemontii

Beautiful tree.. can you not move it out to the common area where it can grow and give beauty to all.?
