Want to Purchase a 2nd hand projector

    Hi

Not too well up on projectors, but enough to know about changing bulbs and the basics. Know that in pubs they look grainy, but have heard that a proper set up at home can look great and all for a very low outlay.

My friend is really the one who is getting it (I might chip in 50 quid) and far as I know:

    1. He wants to get a LED one
    2. He wants to purchase it 2nd hand for around €250
    3. He feels we can just project it onto the walls.

There is a great deal to consider, of course, but with what he's thinking of does it sound feasible or will we have to fork out considerably more?

Will answer any questions as best I can

    Thanks!
    JAK

First off, let me say a big Thank you for replying. I had thought my post was offense or something.

I will pass on that message to my friend.

    Quick question: LED vs LCD??

I should quickly mention what we want this for:

    (1) play Ps3 games the odd time
    (2) watch dvds on ps3
    (3) Stream tv etc from broadband

That's it really. Our house is naturally dark and we want to only watch ****e at night. don't want a tv, just a projector.

That price is really fantastic, my natural scepticism asks: is it just too cheap to be that good??

But I really do appreciate the response and I would welcome anyone who has any further insights

I suspect if you find a good second hand one the person may be selling it as the bulb is nearing the end of it's life so check out the hours used. A good bulb is not cheap (you can get cheaper ones but they don't last long) so factor that into the cost.

The Panasonic lcd projectors are excellent. You'd pick up a 720p one pretty cheap.

The projector you listed on pixmania is not hd and isnt very good tbh.
LED projectors only came out last year and are thin on the ground, no chance he will get one anywhere near that cheap even secondhand your talking probably closer to a grand. Also LED projector are aimed more at the business market.

Dont go near that projector linked on ebay, its not hd at all,not even close and its some made in china rubbish.
The native resolution is 800x400 pixels, the minimum hd is 720p or 1280x720 pixels, also the bulb is so weak you would barely be able to see it unless the room is pitch black.

Your best bet is to post on this websites classified section

    http://www.avforums.com/home/classifieds.html

They are all enthusiasts and no one will rip you off and you will get good advice.Just post what you posted here in the wanted section.

Also regards the bulb, on ebay you can get cheap enough replacements, around 100 euro from china which would do a job.

The one thing about your post that is wrong is that they can look good at a low outlay, a decent projector new is gona be at least 800+

Il list some from that site that are good but make sure you read the rules before posting. There are strict rules on making offers etc and you will have to state that you live in Ireland.

He will be able to project onto a wall, it wont look too good though, if he does this paint the wall grey.
Sorry I realise you didnt specify a hd projector but you should really be aiming for one, albeit a secondhand one.
