Hi, I would like some help with choosing a power amp. At the moment we are using

2 no. EV eliminator bass bins. 400 watt @ 8 ohm
    2no EV sx300 tops 300 watt@ 8 ohm
    Dynacord powermate 1000 700 watt x 2 @ 4 ohm

We are now looking at adding a set of mid speakers to the set up.They will be

    2no. Ev eliminator 350 watt @ 8 ohm.

I really just need to know what watt power amp would i need to run the above system? My head is smashed when it comes to talking about ohms, watts etc. It would be a great help to get some advice from you. We play medium venues. Crowd size ranges from 200 to 1000. If you need anymore information you do not hesitate to ask. Also, if needed, what crossover should i buy? Thanks again.

I'd try running the whole lot off the power mate before buying another power amp. If that isn't up to scratch get something to power the bass bins separately. So at least 2x400 watts and output at 8 Ohm, you'd get away with a 4 Ohm power amp too. I'd also look into a crossover of some sort for separating out the low going to the bins. Maybe the powermate has some kind of crossover built in?

You should avoid putting it all through your existing Dynacord as you'd be at 2 ohms which wont be good for the Powermate.
You should be using a crossover or amp(s) with built in crossover. Do you not use one already with your existing setup or are you sending everything to the bins? You can pick up a Behringer one for under €100.

You might be better off selling the powermate and getting a mixer and separate amps. Maybe one which would allow you to run 4 core speakon to your mids/tops so you could just daisy chain. I dont know if you have the budget though or what it all costs.

Theres a user Savman who tends to know these things and could probably recommend a good setup.

spot on. a powermate wouldn't have a hope powering that rig. i would also suggest selling the power mate (which will free up a lot of cash!) and get a desk and amp. maybe a dynacord pm2600 power amp? has a built in x-over, but im not sure if the x-over frequency is ideal for your speakers. great amp though. I also get confused with 4ohm and 8ohm!
