Haven't flown Aer Lingus to the states in about 5 years so want to check something about their planes now. Does anyone know if flight EI125 to Chicago has power points in economy to charge a laptop in-flight and if they do what type of outlet is it. Also do they have the screens in the back of the seats now on this service or is it still the screen hanging from the ceiling? Trying to plan my in flight entertainment but don't think my battery will last the journey. Also does anyone know do United and Continental have power point? Taking a few internal flights so just want to make sure I'm covered. Thanks in advance.

All EI A330 have AVOD on them and they have standard 3 pin power sockets shared between every two seats.

Not sure what type of aer fungus wreck we went on to new york but it had no screens, very basic and the cost for two tickets was a joke. 2008

That would have been one of the last year of flights for EI-DUB [?] iirc. All EI transatlantic fleet have AVOD now.

EI-DUB was actively used in the EI fleet until October 2009.

I remember being on one of it's last revenue flights ex ORD to DUB. Loads were heavy in both J and Y and there were quite a few pax not too happy - myself included.

EI-DUO went tech two days previous on the climb out of DUB-ORD and EI-EDY, which was very new to the EI fleet at the time, went tech on the day I was due to return - which is why EI-DUB was subbed onto the route and why I have such vivid memories of it!

It was a mothball in terms of the cabins just before it was retired from EI - but perfectly sound mechanically.

EI, without a doubt have the newest and most modern fleet on the Atlantic in terms of the hard product offering in both cabins at this time ex DUB/SNN.

Couldn't fault Continental SNN to Newark last year.

Hi I don't know about are Aer Lingus but Continential are great and despite the size of the plane they have more amenities than some other planes in business https://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/inflight/default.aspx this site tells you every single thing about your flight from the plugs in the seats to what meals will be served

I'm sure that they are great,

However - in terms of the modern nature of the hard product continuity ex DUB - Aer Lingus have the overall best product offering.

I argue that they also have the best overall offering of any carrier ex DUB in the J and Y cabin when all aspects are considered, but that's a debate for another thread.

+1 Aer Lingus put the US Carriers to shame.

True that. No other way to cross the Atlantic from Ireland IMO.

OP, have a look at http://www.seatguru.com/ and input the details of your internal US flights with Continental and United to see what will be available to you on board. Usually is spot on.

When it comes to business class, Continental is streets ahead of Aer Lingus. I flew DUB-EWR with Continental in July and was so impressed with the service that I got I wrote to them to compliment the crew.

The biggest plus for CO is the lie flat beds, although EI have flat beds, they are angled and not as comfortable. CO made me my steak the way I wanted, when I woke from a sleep they had tea and a freshly baked cookie!!!

EI biz class return is about €1700, CO is about $4000!!! Bit of a difference.

I couldn't disagree more on some of these points.

EI USA Business Class Return is approximately EUR 1,500 return if you manage to grab one of the first four available revenue seats in the Business Cabin, ie. - you are booking well in advance. Otherwise, even at the now reduced pricing levels, you can still readily pay EUR 3,000 with EI.

It's down to opinion ultimately - because I find no problem with the comfort levels of the EI Recaro seats.

At least 90% of flights with EI in Business Class are exceptional in my experience, in terms of the dining and service provided onboard. I've never witnessed those levels of service continuity with CO - that said, they do seem to be improving based on some Domestic USA F flights taken with them recently.

I'd take the A330 cabin over the more narrow B757 cabin any day - but again, that is down to individual preference.

Any experience with CO ex DUB in the past 5-7 years has been horrific and it would take a lot before I would fly them again T/A.

Up to most recent times I was very much a strong supporter of Aer Lingus. Even if it meant paying that bit extra for economy, I would fly the green to avoid some of the American carriers. However, the total inconsistent product offered by Aer Lingus forced me to look elsewhere. When you pay big money for a business class ticket, you expect something better than what is thrown at you.

    EI biz class 2-2-2
    CO biz class 2-2

Can you explain the difference in the 757 V 330 cabin in business class? I know the basics alright, but in that cabin, really whats the difference between them?

The seats may be comfortable for you, in your own opinion but at over 6'4" tall, I like the fully lie flat bed that CO has to offer versus the feeling of 'am i going to slide off'

We both agree that its a personal thing, but at the moment, and after 20 years of business and personal flying, I am liking the new CO product TA. By the way, is your username anything to do with the amenity kit offered on board EI flights?

The 330 is SIGNIFICANTLY wider than the 757.

You would expect 2-2 in a plane that has 3-3 in economy; and you'd expect 2-2-2 in a plane that has 2-4-2.

As goes other features, the likelyhood of my employer paying business class is tending to zero and gold circle only blags you so much :(
