sbs 2003 Sp smtp help

    Hi,

    We've recently changed ISPs at work and are having a problem with emails, can't send or recieve. Basically it turns out I need to change the smtp on the server but I don't know how to do this.

    Can anyone help?

    How is your email setup? Individual pop/imap accounts or an email package on the server?

    If this business is using SBS'03 then it's likely that they have exchange set up, and their internal computers connect to this internal server using MAPI.

    You really should get in contact with a competent IT person to advise what needs to be done.

    Some possibilities...
    1)
    When you're changing ISP, the external IP address on which your server is visible on the internet will change. And it's up to your company to adjust your settings to deal with this.

    2)
    Is internet working ok through the new connection? (I.e. did the dns lookup of your SBS server / firewall need to change?)

    3)
    Are you certain that the new internet service is a business class service with a static (doesn't change) IP address range?

    You can get the new address by phoning the ISP support line and confirming the new static IP and DNS details for your server. Or reading the docs that they should have sent for a business service.

    4a)
    Is mail to your server delivered through a spam cleaning service such as Postini? If so, you will need to connect to this service and point it at your new address.

    4b)
    If mail is delivered directly to your server, then you will need to change the DNS settings for your domain. Either the A record or the associated MX for your server will have to be set from the old address to the new address.
    So you would have to get in touch with the domain registration company from whom you 'rent' your company's domain name (This may require logging into an online control panel or even sending a FAX to confirm the change).
    There may be other DNS records such as SPF text records that should be changed.

    Once the values are updated it may take 12 hours or more for them to update on your customers mail servers.
