Rent Allowance Entitlement

    Hi,

    My brother is living with me temporarily and is registering for Rent Allowance. Do you know if he would be entitled to anything?

    I know if he's living in the family home or with parents, he's not entitled to anything so thats ok.

    I can't seem to find any information on the web.

    He will need to be renting privately for 6 months before he can get RA, he will also need to be on the social housing list.

    How can he get on the social housing list if he owns his own house but has recently separated from his wife?

    He needs to supply a copy of separation agreement to the council.

    Does anyone know am I entitled to Rent Allowance?
    I am Renting Privately now for 6 months.
    I applied to the council but was refused.
    I am 22 and on JA for 1 year.
    Ive read on the Internet that I am entitled to it now.
    Im just afraid the CWO will tell me that I am not entitled.]

    No point in being afraid the only way you will know is to go and see your cwo, but if you have been renting for that length you should be fine.
