    Hey,

I'm planing to buy an electric guitar that would be good for playing mainly metal and rock, but also quite easy to play for begginers (low action, thin neck, jumbo frets, etc.).
I'm interested in the Ibanez RG series, and I'm looking for a shop in or around Dublin where I could buy this kind of guitars.

Do you guys know any good one, preferably with a lot of choice? My budget is around 500 euros. Also, I prefer to buy directly in the shop rather than delivery.

The only shop I know and that is matching these criteria is Xmusic.

Thanks in advance for your advices.

remember that a thin neck, big frets and low action are not essential for an easy playing guitar... i cannot play an ibanez wizard neck without getting pains in my hand after a while... until you try them you won't know what is best for you.

floyd rose systems may be hard to get to grips with for a beginner too. Don't have your heart set on one brand of guitar, go and play them or if you're not confident enough to play in a shop, bring a friend who is! there's lots of choice out there and the main plus of buying directly from a shop is that you try anything you'd like!

Thanks for the advices. Any other brand/model to recommend for metal?
I guess I'll spend an afternoon at Xmusic to try many different guitars.

METAL.... it's always been synonymous with pointy guitars and superstrats.

As for easy to play, your hands will tell you the difference, bigger frets may help some players with expression, bends hammer ons and pull offs, but they put more pressure on your fingertips and may hamper your learning, by reducing the amount of practice you're able to do before it becomes uncomfortable.

for a passable metal tone, you'll need a humbucker with reasonably high output and a guitar thats well made, when plugged into a nice high gain amp, poorly made guitars can sound obviously cheap, everything else is personal choice!

good names are easy to find...ask a shop attendant... they should know more about their stock anyone else, be nice and ask lots of questions, they're there to help!

one word of warning.... don't buy something too metal that will embarrass you in a few years time... i have a B.C.Rich warlock that i got when i was 16 or so (now i'm 27) and i felt very self conscious for years about taking it out at practice because it is so "METAL". for the record it is probably the best playing guitar i own and has a huge range of sounds from it but the image of it still bugs me:rolleyes:

You should try out a couple of the J-Series Jacksons. They're ideal for beginners. I started out playing a J-Series Warrior.

Loads of stuff on Adverts.ie too, Schecters, Jackson & Ibanez, and some great Charvels - plenty of metal machines on there!! I'd rather buy used than shop full price.
I'd second the 'bring a friend' advice too, if you're not experienced in Floyds/Kahlers or even guitars in general that is. I've played for years now but wouldn't know much about those style bridges, no shame in asking someone who is to tag along!
