    Hi

I was on illness benefit and it was coming to an end so I applied for Invalidity Pension which was turned down and I appealed, I was awarded my appeal, I was wondering does anyone know do they back date it to when my illness benefit was stopped and if so how and when do they pay you this??

    Thanks in Advance

It will be backdated to the date of your application.

Arrears paid by cheque, Expect 8/10 week wait

You should also follow up on you arrears owed, as in some cases the Department would forget that there is arrears owed and would not get arounded to backdating this unless reminded.

Don't forget to apply for your household package for gas/electric and phone allowance.

this is subject to certain conditions, its not an automatic entitlement.

Thats the appeal hearing itself (up to 14 months).

Processing payments after successfull appeals is taking around 5-6 weeks now.

And the amounts have been reduced since the start of this month.

Why do the poor get hammered the most in this country???

Id love to see Enda Kenny live for a month or so in a situation like this and on Invalidity money too.

It is taking 6 months to a year for an initial decision on applications.

Thats absolute rubbish, and Im speaking from allmost 1st hand experience of this matter.

My sisters appeal hearing took 14 months to actually happen.

Countless phone calls to the appeals office in Dublin City centre got her the same answer.

"Yep,we have your appeal application here and its being processed at the moment,it will be a few more months time.We will contact you in due time."

Eventually after 13 months and an allmost complete nervous breakdown on the phone to the appeals office,is what eventually got her an appeals hearing time and date. The lady on the other end of the phone very kindly stuck her on the list of appeals hearings for the following Tuesday morning.

Thats how desperately slow things are in that appeals office.

She then got a letter confirming her successfull appeal hearing, and her reinstated and backdated payment "5 weeks later on",after her appeal hearing itself.

The money owed to her went straight into her bank account aswell.

You will get arrears from the date when you first applied. You do not need to apply for the arrears, SW will send a cheque.

The SWA will be deducted from your IP arrears. If you've been getting SWA for 16 weeks & your IP entitlement is also backdated 16 weeks you'll get a cheque for €120.00

    €193.50 - €186.00 = €7.50 x 16 = €120.00

There might be a small difference in the actual amount allowing for different payment periods in terms of days & also if you are due a living alone increase that would also be backdated but you certainly won't be paid €193.50 x 16 so don't be expecting a windfall!

They will issue you the arrears due minus and SWA you've received for the same period
