I'm starting my first proper job since I turned 18 in about two weeks and I'm not sure how it works with tax. How much will I be taxed and can I get it back does anyone know?'

Congrats on the job. You need to fill in a form 12a, available from the Revenue site. Or give the employer the P45 from your last part time job this year, if you've had one.

Because it's half way through the year, you'll probably be taxed very little this year ... the first E15,000 or so of your income is tax free each year, and I'd be surprised if you can make that much in the rest of this year.

Beware that your pay may go down next year though, as some tax start being due.

15,000k. Great, I haven't worked since last July so I will be tax free until January!

Thanks JustMary, don't suppose you could link to the Revenue site?

When you've got your tax details from the Revenue Commissioners, you can use my spreadsheet to get an idea of how much you'll receive net (assuming that you receive the same amount each pay period rather than a varying amount).

It should be straightforward to use but leave a message here (or PM me to be sure I get the message) if you need a hand with it.

you'll still have to pay PRSI and USC though.
