Mervyn Jeffers in Bandon, Co. Cork, he should have a good selection of them. You'll pay through the nose for one of them though.

If you can shoot a short barreled side by side, check out the AYA Model 25 as well. It's ideal for carrying around all day but not everyone is a fan of the short barrel length (25").

You wont get a no2 for less than 1500 imo. Don't discount a aya yeoman as they are a nice gun as well. Nothing wrong with a laurona if its well balanced.

I agree - a No2 in good nick should fetch about 1400-1500. Also agree that the Yeoman (or a Matador) by AyA would be suitable.
I would not put 99% of Lauronas in the same class as AyA.
Do not rule out a decent English boxlock - a good choice should be available in 1k - 1.5k pricerange.

Hello thanks for the reply which do you think is better for rough shooting side by side or under over

For the type of shooting you describe (walked up) I'd go for a nice English side by side, consider a 16-bore, lovely and light so you can carry it all day no problem. Peter McGee should have plenty for around the 1000 mark, cash will get a nice discount.

It all depends on preference tbh. The side by side is an out and out game gun but some people cannot hit with them till they get used to them. Others have no problems. If you can hit with your baikal sxs then maybe stick with a sxs. On the other hand there is a great selection of under and overs for sale from 300 to 700 euro. I have been shooting a under and over for 18 years, I shot my first sxs a month back when my uncle got a Aya no 4 and I love it, I'm mad keen to get one now.

I don't think I would give Mcgee a 1000 euro for a gun that he cannot tell you what thickness the walls are. These guns are English guns ranging from 50 to 100 years old. In england when you buy them of the dealer they will tell you what thickness the barells are. Any thickness of less than 20 thou is very thin and shouldn't be sold to the public. How are we to know what thickness these guns in Ireland are. I would rather take my chances with a more modern Aya unless I bought from england myself.

Watch this video from 2.30 on very informative.

Have a No.4 AYA 12g about 40 years old...theyre a fabulous gun!! Nearly affraid to shoot it at this stage! The look and "feel" of them is great! I actually prefer the English side -locks... I saw one in Monaghan from the 1920's which had the full owners history and original documents. More of an antique than a gun!

There are a few AYA sxs shotguns for sale on sportsden.ie.

They seem to be between 600 and 800 euro. I dont know what kind of nick they are in or how old.
It might be worth taking a look or giving them a call.
