Forwarding bulk e-mail

    Hi,

I use Eircom for my work e-mail. I have 100 e-mails that I need to forward to other people. Is there any easy way of doing this? Can't use Thunderbird as I'm not using Outlook Express. Any ideas?

If you obtained the pop\smtp settings for eircom mail you could set them up in Thunderbird\outlook then just do a ctrl+select mails and hit the forward button.

EDIT: I found these settings not sure if they're still valid though.

POP3 (Incoming) Server: webmail.eircom.net (new webmail) or mail1.eircom.net (classic webmail)
    SMTP (Outgoing) Server: mail1.eircom.net.

unless you're using some kind of mail client it will be tricky.

Are you just logging in via the web?

If you have outlook, or anything similar, you can create a PST archive.
I'm not sure what the file size limitations are on Eircom, for sending though.

If you get it into a PST archive by some means, you could then send it using a file upload service like bigattachment, yousendit, dropbox etc.

That actually worked! Now downloading 3000+ emails!

If I delete some of the very old ones in Thunderbird, will it also delete them from my Eircom account or are they independent of each other?

    Why so surprised? :P

You're downloading them locally if you delete them on Thunderbird you just delete them from there and not the server (I hope). I'd double check with Eircom though just to be on the safe side (whichever protocol they use).

You can configure it to download+delete, download and leave for a day, or 7, or however long, or leave it on the server.

Next question! It won't send e-mail? Got this messgae: An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.1 Relaying denied to domain esatclear.ie. Tried a gmail address also.

Right then the outgoing server is wrong. What did you put in for that? (You can go in to tools and change it in there).

Can you ping the server? (Open up a command prompt and just type something like "ping mail.eircom.net" and you should get a response. Without the quote marks!).

Outgoing is: smtp.eircom.net. That's what it picked up itself

I just pinged it there and getting a response. It could be a different address though just to f*ck with end users.

If you put the IP address instead of the smtp.eircom.net one in the outgoing does that make any difference?

    Failing that either look.....................nope............wait..........found this.

    http://support.eircom.net/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/&/?St=47&E=0000000000299374896&K=7650&Sxi=1&Case=obj(1567)
Type webmail.eircom.net into the Incoming mail Server and type mail1.eircom.net into the Outgoing mail (SMTP) Server fields.

    mail1.eircom.net doesn't work either

What's your ISP ? Sometimes ISPs don't allow customers to connect to SMTP servers other than their own. I'm on UPC and had to use smtp.upcmail.ie even though I dont have a mail account with them.

How do I find my ISP?

Internet Service Provider. Basically who you have your connection with. You may need to use their outgoing settings.

The error message indicates you are connecting from esatclear.ie (now Vodafone). Try mail.iol.ie as your SMTP (outgoing) server.

I was trying to send it to esatclear not from. It doesn't send it to gmail addresses either.

You're right - sorry, my mistake.

As CrazyRabbit pointed out, the "Relaying denied to domain xxxx" error basically means you are not authorised to use the mail server to send mail to that domain.

Either the mail server is blocking mail to the destination domain or the mail server doesn't recognise you as an authorised user.

Your IP address may be in a new Eircom netblock which their mail server doesn't yet recognise (if you post the first three numbers or PM it to me, I'll check) or, if you've been sending a lot of bulk mail, you may have hit an undocumented limit (antispam protection).

Make sure you have added your own eircom email address while setting up your POP and SMTP. I did it recently but had to stop it from going from eircom to outlook as I kept loosing the emails in eircom.

POP3 (Incoming) Server: webmail.eircom.net (new webmail) or mail1.eircom.net think this is mail1.eircom.net net still but try the webmail.eircom.net I know one of them worked for me!
SMTP (Outgoing) Server: mail1.eircom.net. this is correct but think it could be webmail.eircom.net too? or your eircom email with your eircom name.eircom.net.

I cannot remember but I now one of the above will work!? I have a notion that POP and SMTP are both mail1.eircom.net

    Good luck OP
