Arsenal and their never ending transfer sagas

Is it just me or are Arsenal being a bit of a joke when it comes to holding onto players?

Now before all you Gunner fans attack me for attacking their club, let me say this. I've always had a soft spot for them. Going back to the days of Ian Wright Wright Wright, Anders Limpar and Steve Morrows broken arm. My cousins supported Arsenal when we were kids and in the dark days of Graeme Souness reign at Liverpool, I nearly jumped ship to support the Gunners too. Thats why I find the follwing pretty sad, a bit pitiful but most of all confusing.

Arsene Wenger goes and unearths a gem, Patrick Vieira, Manu Petit et al. Or he resurrects a career e.g Thierry Henry, Denis Bergkamp. It inevitably seems to happen though that these players see Arsenal as a stepping stone to Barcelona more often than not or some other major European club. If it was another, less fashionable club, they'd be labelled small time and a selling club.

Obviously this happens all too regularly in the Prenier League but t just seems to be never ending with Arsenal. But its never concluded in a transfer window or two. It goes on and drags for three or four seasons. Off the top of my head... Petit, Overmars, Henry, Hleb and now Fabregas. They've all joined Barcelona (Fabregas is one I'd try to forgive as a fan or Arsenal because of his previous connection) but there's also Vieira to Juve, Flamini to Milan. Now Nasri looks set to join City to join Clichy.

Is there something fundamentally wrong at Arsenal when they sign players or when it comes to renewing contracts? Everytime they sign a decent player these days, I find myself saying "how long before they eyeing up a better deal somewhere else?"

I know people are going to point out that its just the modern era and its the way things are but it seems to happen way too often at Arsenal for any supporter to be happy with.

I suppose my question is why can't Arsenal get players to show some loyalty to the club or are they in fact a selling club?
    Failed to load the poll.
