    hi all,

all of a sudden im getting a NMI parity error. Googled and various reasons - MOBO, HDD, Mem or even s/ware but not really able to pick the cause in my own case however.

Done as many checks as i can do myself - anyone got any specific knowledge of this laptop and how this problem manifests itself on it? If so, any soutions?

    Regards

I had this problem on an Inspiron 6400 recently, in that case it was a motherboard failure. Could be anything with memory - video card, network card, wireless LAN card etc, but probably not system RAM as this is non-parity memory. Might still be worth testing anyway.

Thanks for the info about the memory type, did not realise that, the shop i deal with often was suggesting it was the memory as it said memory in the fault error name - they are usually good and fair when it comes to repairs tho.

I have recently replaced both the memory and put in a (smaller sized) wireless card - all worked - video playing, many screens opened on desktop, etc and had no problems - have moved laptop in car so probably the smaller sized LAN card i have now has shifted or shifts in the socket when warm - it does appear after about 10 mins of use. I shall remove the covers of both memory and LAN card and see.

Just hope its not the MOBO - like all things costly, its out of warranty!!!

    Thanks for tips
