Liquids in sealed bags

Flew from knock the other day, had all my liquids in a clear freezer bag and was informed that all bags must be resealable, gave a querying look but was told in no uncertain terms to purchase a bag (2 for €1).

Im just wondering what the logic behind them being in a resealable bag is?

It gets more ridiculous every time.

I don't even bother putting mine in a bag anymore. Just shove them in the front pocket of the travel bag. A resealable bag, wtf?

The sooner they get rid of this rule the better.

I did get a laugh when i say a guy trying to bring those little french bottled beers through. Each in it's own ziploc bag.

I had this in the UK not too long ago.
However I have now come to expect this sort of BS from UK airport security.

Ditto had it in Birmingham and the security made me buy a resealable for some stupid reason.

Same in Cork, we were told our resealable bag was too big!!! We had to buy 2 for €1.

Its simple. Its a money making bonanza for the airport. And they use to skivvys to enforce it.

It will go on unchallenged like everything else...

You are literally talking hundreds of thousands of euro a year on this little bag rip off

A tip I learned in Dublin last year, buy it from the chemist beside the security area, it's cheaper and more pleasant than buying from a vending machine (where you need change and all that)

And don't throw the bag away, hold on to it. I know it's only €2, but what the hell, better in your pocket than their's.

The rules haven't changed - the bag always had to be resealable and within a certain size.

Sandwich bags do the job perfectly.

I'm not disputing any rules I'm just wondering why it HAS to be resealable ie what's the logic behind it.

I used the same sandwich bag all over the place for years until I met the only jobsworth at Dublin Security one evening. He insisted I either go back out and buy a "proper resealable" DAA bag or my shaving gel was gone but I didn't give him the satisfaction. New sandwich bag used since then and no problems. Otherwise Dublin Security is numero uno.

Had Cardiff Airport do some testing on "oddly coloured" liquids today (mouthwash. that happens to be purple), which is worse than being shouted at for a bag not being "right". Quiet airport syndrome I think.

I still don't see why the bag needs to be sealable at all, though.
