A violent storm hit an outdoor rock music festival leaving at least one person dead and seven others injured in Belgium, according to firefighters at the scene.

Two stages collapsed, with one falling on the concertgoers at the Pukkelpop festival.

Some giant screens also fell down and trees were uprooted by the fierce storm, the Belga news agency reported.

There seems to be a spate of this type of incident recently, are the stages too elaborate.

"Spate" is a bit of an exaggeration really but it does raise questions about the quality of contruction of stages especially in areas prone to bad storms, you would think they would take extra precautions in such areas, though I guess if the storm was unexpected there's not much you can do.

Heard from a few of them, all is okay. Still to hear from a few others, hopefully they're alright.

Hope all the boardsies over there are ok. Hope everyone over there is.

I was at a festival in Spain a few years ago and there was a huge wind storm as well. As far as I know no one was killed but loads of tents were wrecked, some blown clean away with peoples passports and everything inside them and huge areas of the camp sites were evacuated because of the danger of the huge bar tents collapsing. It's not particularly nice when a fun holiday turns into something like this.
