    Hi guys,
I am a newly qualified sports massage therapist hoping to qualify as a neuromuscular physical therapist in early December.
I am just wondering if there is a market for massage therapists at sports events like marathons/tri-athlons etc. And would anyone have any advice on how I could set up at one of these events,
    Thanks

usuaslly the race organiser provide these services as a freebie to the entrants, afaik they usually use massage therapists from the regulatory body or whatever its called for insuraces purposes, but it would do you no harm contacting individual organisers to offer your services as it might get you out there, business cards etc

I am also interested! My friend got qualified 1 year ago and is looking for such opportunity. Where should he go?

There's a post-race massage tent at the Dublin marathon. You could start by talking to them

Most of the big events have an alliance with a particular association. The Womens Marathon uses the Institute of Physical Therapy (Irish Association of Physical Therapy IAPT), while the Dublin City Marathon uses Chartered Physiotherapists.

Most races around the country would be delighted for you to volunteer for pre and post race massage. I am involved in a couple of races and we use volunteer therapists for pre and post event massage. Once you can provide the organisers with proof of insurance (most important), and have your own portable plynth, then you should be good to go. Its a great add-on for these events, and makes them more attractive. Also good for marketing yourself.

If you're established you'll get the odd enquiry. Otherwise you'll have to offer it up yourself. If you're on your own it's tough - one person is really not enough especially in races with a decent sized field.

    Functional Training Ireland do it.

I like this idea - to keep participants in their correct starting pens!
