Maybe a good thread to start up to see what teachers' subjects / combinations are finding it difficult to find teaching hours.

Probably also good to state your years of experience or NQT.

I hate to say it but all of those subject combinations are either pretty strange or pretty uncommon which makes them poor choices when it comes to getting a job.

I'm just throwing it out there but this summer seemed to me to be the worst yet in terms of posts advertised. I knew I was ok back in June, albeit with 19 hrs which I'm hoping will get bumped up in the first couple of weeks or so, but I always monitor the ads whether I'm actively searching or not. There seemed to be a lot of very part-time jobs and few full time openings. What was anyone else's impression?

Yep there seems to be a fraction of the jobs that came up last year, and it wasn't great last year to start with.

A few people I worked with last year are finding it hard to get jobs and are having to aim for half hours or less.

Its certainly tough out there, but that doesn't only apply to teachers.

I wonder what Quinn's plans are to do with all the forthcoming retirements??

    Maths and Applied Maths
    NQT!

Applied to about 20 posts and haven't even got an interview and only 2 schools had the courtosy of sending a PFO. So frustrating!:(

Unfortunately the reality out there is there's very few jobs no matter what the subject/combination and even the combinations being advertised are weird!

no exp outside PGDE, no hours!

Does CSPE count? If so, it's English AND CSPE for me then. Its just I feel most schools are quite happy to give CSPE to non-CSPE qualified teachers, so don't make a big deal about it...
