Focus 06 TDCi - Full Service?

    Hi,
Just bought a 06 Focus TDCi from a private seller, the guy wasn't the previous owner so I don't have a FSH on the car. I'm happy with the car but I don't want to take any chances especially with the oil filter & am going to take it to the main dealer to get a full service - cost quoted at €285.
Is there anything that I should specifically look to find out from the mechanic when I'm talking to him?
Based in Limerick am going to go the Cavanagh's in charleville for service - unless someone has recommendation for an alternative that they have expierence of.

If its the 1.6 get him to check for a split inter cooler pipe. Common problem. Make sure they use 5w 30 fully synthetic oil. While your at it get them to do a brake fluid change as well.

Depending on where you are in Limerick I can recommend Dan Dooley in knocklong, but I have no experience of cavanaghs so I can't compare them. At the very least it couldn't hurt to compare prices.

Thanks - I'm west Limerick going with cavanaghs because a friend goes there & he recommended them. My old car was a Toyota & my mechanic was farmilar with the old models so I'm on the lookout for a new guy that knows the 1.6 Diesel Focus, not the main dealers if I can avoid it!

Why did you buy an newish car without a FSH OP? The Focus is a popular car after all.

I liked the car when I took it for a test drive! It is the 110BHP Zetec 1.6 TDCi
But I did contact the previous owner to get confirmation that it was trouble free but I don't want to call again re SH as he had already traded it in!
Because I don't know much about Fords & my previous car was an old banger I'd like to start off on the right road with this one by getting it checked/serviced asap

You should ring, its only a quick call and whats the worst that can happen? Just ask where the car was serviced and if he has the service history. Was he the first owner?

Is it an import? Not many 110bhp 1.6TDCI's sold here. Most were 90bhp. Kph speedo is a giveaway.

I'd say because cars that are being serviced on the button every time are a bit like talking dogs in Ireland. Extremely rare.
And cars that are being serviced on the button every time by a main dealer and then have that service recorded in the book are like dogs that talk Norwegian. Even rarer.;)

UK import (presumably) and missing or lost service history would have alarm bells ringing with me.

Can work out being expensive getting a 5 year old car serviced by a main dealer but if it keeps your mind at rest then so be it. On the 110bhp 1.6 TDCi engine it will have a DPF so make sure they check the EOLYS additive is topped up.
