Qualifying for Maternity Benefit

How long must I be in insurable employment for? A week? 2 weeks? What constitutes a prsi contribution? And is there a minimum wage?

Following taken from welfare, but doesn't answer my query.

To qualify for Maternity Benefit as an employee you must:
    • be in insurable employment that is covered by the Maternity Protection Act, 1994 immediately before the first day of maternity leave. The last day of insurable employment must be within 16 weeks of the end of the week your baby is due. If you cease employment your maternity leave must start from the following day,
      and
    • satisfy certain PRSI contribution conditions.

If you tell us your recent employment history we'll probably be able to tell you if you' ll get maternity benefit or not. minimum wage for most people is euro 8.65. minimum wage and maternity benefit are entirely unrelated matters. if you look at your payslip you will see your PRSI deductions every week. minimum requirement for maternity benefit is at least 39 weeks PRSI paid in the 12-month period before the first day of your maternity leave. but this is not the only way to qualify for maternity benefit, so if you give us more details someone will advise.

Was in Full time permanent employment for 10 years plus until Feb 2010 so based on relevant year I think I fulful prsi criteria.

Mat benefit from Feb 2010 - August 2010

    Unemployed since then.

30 weeks pregnant now (10 weeks till due date) and wondering if I got some work (unlikely but worth a shot) might I qualify for Maternity benefit.

So wonder would I need a days/weeks/months work to qualify? Do I have to earn in excess of a certain amount?

I know I have to have Class A (most likely) prsi contribution but what do I need to do to get this?

Yeah, i think if you could get employment and your employer pays a PRSI contribution for you (basically if you earn in excess of 38 euro a PRSI contribution must be paid for you by that employer every payday) then it looks like you will probably get maternity benefit.
