Car tax question

    Hi, looking for advice.

I bought a car last week (from a dealer) and have just had it registered in my name. They sent out the car tax renewal form. The tax had expired at the end of June, and now the renewal form says I must pay to have the disc to commence on the first day of July. I don't really want to pay 6 weeks worth of tax for when I didn't own or drive the car, so is there any way out of this?

    Thanks

Go to Guards and get your form stamped declaring it off the road for the month of July. The transaction was done in August so you didn't own the car in July.

You don't have to pay it. And you don't have to go to guards as adviced above.

Instead of filling in form you got, get RF100a form (motor tax renwal form - you can download it and print it).
Fill in there July as previous owner period, and pay only from begining of August.

You don't need to get it declared off the road if you didn't own it.These tax questions along with NCT questions really need to be stickied imo

Sorry for asking the same question as others. Read stickies and didn't find an answer. Thanks for the replies.
