MacBook Wireless problems

    Hi Guys,

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and it is the business! Only problem I am having is with my wireless connection. It keeps dropping on me for no apparent reason. I've the Wireless set up with WPA-PSK encryption and my old laptop never had a problem. I've also noticed it with my iPhone that it will ask for the wireless key from time to time when it should be connected. Any ideas?

Also, I have a wireless access point which I want to put upstairs and I can link it to the wireless router with two ethernet over power plugs. Do I set up the access point with the same SSID and encryption as the wireless router and give the wireless router and access point different channel frequency? Or is there a better way to do this?

Which Operating system is on it? Lion seems to be having problems with WiFi at the moment

    It's on Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Turned off Bluetooth on the MacBook but still had the same problem. I've also disabled the security on the Wireless Router and it hasn't dropped at all. Is there a problem with WPA and WPA2 security settings with Macs and iPhones? I've noticed this a couple of times when I've been on different Wireless networks with the iPhone and from time to time it will ask for the password. Shouldn't it automatically join the network once it is within range?

Could be something to do with your keychain. Access the keychain utility and delete the keychain that corresponds to your ssid. Then reconnect to the router and check the box that says add to keychain when connecting.

Hi sorry if this is slightly off the thread topic, but I was advised by someone else on Boards to ask in the Mac section.

I have a MAC OS 10.3.9 and am trying to get a USB adapter to connect to UPC internet wirelessly. Does anyone know of USB sticks on the market that would be compatible? Annoyingly, all the USBs in PC World do not have systems requirements on them.

    Thanks in advance!

Same problem with WIFI on mbp, apple say there is no problem

@op with the dongle, what macbook are you using? Can you update the OS, also will it accept a data card, have you a slot on the side, the old powerbooks used to have.

Every now and again my MBP will just drop the wireless signal and often wont reconnect to it or just wont find it.

An app that I found a bit helpful was caffeine, it keeps everything running, no sleep.
Seems to the trick most of the time.
