Not sure if this is the right place to discuss this but anyway, I have a really good chance of getting a weekend job in a local factory near my college, I 've been working all summer so i'm financially sound for the year was just wondering if anyone who has had a job during semester if it impacted in anyway in studies or whatever. As I'm not desperate for the money I'm wondering if I should just enjoy the year and return to the job next summer. (I'm sorry if I sound like a complete gobshíte to people who are looking for jobs)

you dont sound like a godshíte at all, and anyone who says you do is just trying to get a rise from you.

i assume your starting first year since you were working, first year is usually the make or break year when someone starts a new course. it covers areas that might not seem too relevant depending on the course, but the work load is never crazy.
second year gets a bit more hectic, and third year even more so etc.

if your finiancially sound, then its really up to you if you want to enjoy the year.
but since you said its a weekend job, that still gives you every evening after college if you have assignments, study and socialising with friends etc.

how old are you? dont forget, college is a great social center to meet new people, and to take part in some excellent clubs and societies (many of these organise events on weekends).
then again, working the weekends could ensure that you have enough money for next year if your good at saving.

in the end, its 100% up to you how you feel about it.

    It's third year I'm going into and I really want a 1.1.....

Depends really. do you need the money? I needed the money when in college, so much so that I got a job that was Fri-Sun so I was constantly missing friday lectures at one stage. It def had an impact on my college but then again, if I hadn't the money I couldn't go.

If you think you'd need the money for social stuff etc then take the job, but if you're planning on spending every waking minute doing college work (and you may have to depending on what 1:1 you want) then maybe its not worth doing?

Depends how busy your semester is. I'd say do one day a week.

right, well there's your answer. you mentioned in your first post that your not going to be stuck for money.
if you really want a 1.1, then you know what is required. lots of study, lots of work on assignments and proper commitment.

if your financially sound for the year, then concentrate on getting the 1.1.
you only get 1 chance at it, and if you take the job, and dont get the grade your after your going to regret it.
