Tyres wore badly on inside???

    Well experts..:)

    I was checking the tyres on the front of my Passat the other day and judging by the outside there was about a month left on them until they got down to legal limit.

    The passangers side looked a bit soft so I took it off to check for a leak. To my shock horror the inside of the tyre close to the wall the tyre was completly gone including the wire...:eek::eek::eek:
    It was down to the canvas it was that bad.

    Anyway I stuck the spare on and checked the far side and it was the very same. I think the tracking is spot on because it was checked recently and was perfect also the car dont pull even when you let go of the wheel..

    Any idea what could cause this totally excessive wear??

    worn balljoints or wishbone bushings can cause that. Your can can track straight but the tracking can still be out. Just depends how and by how much.
    Chances are its balljoints or wishbone bushings however.

    I was thinking that too but they look ok I may get them looked at more closely.

    That sounds fairly plausable allright. Whats the remedy for that?

    Camber doesnt just go off "for the craic". Corkie wherever you go make sure they inspect the bushings and soforth fully. Inside wear on both sides is either both wheels toed out or worn components leading to excessive negative camber which will wear the inside shoulder badly.

    If you have jack stands you can do rough test yourself. Jack the wheels up, grab a wheel at 12 and 6 oclock and try as hard as you can to rock it. Any movement means balljoints are likely dead. Do the same at 9 and 3 o clock, play here is more indicative of worn steering joints. The passat has a funky suspension setup from what I remember on mine with two balljoints on top of the towers as well?

    Balljoint and suspension wear and general can be one cause, I don't know the cause but I reckon it all needs checking

    My last Volvo S40 had premature wear on the inside of both front tyres. Wishbone bushings were the cause.
