The growth style is like a hippeastrum but in spite of the size of the image (:D) the bulb doesn't really look big enough. Can you give us any clues at all about the flower?

right i just made a phone call to the previous owner :D

    she said
it was a white flower with a yellow centre coming from the centre of the main pictured plant about 4-5 inches high
it was kind of hairy or a shaggy looking flower

the other 3 plants i separated from the main one a couple of weeks ago
i'm not sure are they suckers or was the plant bought like that

oh and she bought it off a cactus/succulent specialist

    thats all i know

    http://www.plantzafrica.com/planthij/haemanalbif.htm

I think you will find that is it. The hippeastrum guess was kind of on the right lines, its actually of the amaryllis family.

Looks like an interesting and quite unusual plant.

I found that exact page about 20 minutes ago.
3 months trying to find the name of this plant :-)

    Thanks for your help looksee

i think i better get the label maker out at long last

this wasn't my longest search. had to wait almost a year (for the flower) to identify a type of clematis Or so i taught turned out to be an apparently rare variety of passionflower

I've got an ??aloe?? aswell just got it off a friend a few days ago ill put up some pics in another thread tomorrow

    Thanks again
