    Hi All,

Myself and the other half are considering heading away in October/November for a break (probably a week). We've looked at lots of options:
    -Skiing (i've no balance)
    -New York (very very expensive)
-European City (really only a weekend thing)

So our other option is a break in search of sun. I've looked around here and people seem to recommend the canaries as an option. Neither of us have ever been. Accommodation seems pretty high price wise? So can anyone recommend a specific location to base ourselves to look at, nice accommodation, or any other destination we should be looking at. We're open to suggestions.

    As always, thanks in advance,

    Rob

Lanzarote would be good at that time of year, still nice and warm and cheap.

dont think you can ski anywhere in europe until atleast mid December... if i were you and going for a city break, Id go somewhere that is still relatively pleasant weather wise, like Rome etc... New York is expensive full stop, and youd want to go there for atleast 4 nights to make it worthwhile IMO...

Thanks for the advice. We've been on a good few city breaks so just thought a sun break might be nice. I'll look into lanzarote as an option anyway, but keep our options open.

Fuerteventura is another option. We stayed in Caralejo around that time of year a few years ago. There's enough variety in restaurants in the town to last the week and quite a bit to do there - beach, snorkelling/diving, water park, market, drive around the island (it's small enough to do it in a single day). I would recommend it. Can't remember the name of the place we stayed in but it was a 4 star near the water park - really good, clean accomodation with excellent pool and within 5 minutes walking distance of the main strip.

Sounds like Las Marismas. Stayed there in late September a few years ago and loved it. If we were to go back to Corralejo, would definitely stay there.

The market was shockingly bad, I thought. We didn't go to the water park. Definitely worth hiring a car.

OP, FWIW, I've been searching for a sun break in Oct and got a decent location in a quiet part of Lanza and flights which works out at €1100 for 11 days for three of us. I really didn't enjoy Lanzarote the last time we went, but on reflection I'd put it down to the staff in our hotel who were absolute w@nkers. I've never met such rude people, let alone in the tourism sector! As a result my primary objective was to find a hotel where the reviews of front desk and other staff were at least good!

Booking everything yourself gives you a lot of flexibility and can save you money too.

Cheers for this, this is definitely within our budget (for just 2of us), so I'll look into this more. Thanks again, if you've any further information on areas of the island that would be nicer please let me know.

In Lanzarote I've only ever stayed in Matagorda (three times) and Puerto del Carmen (once - too often tbh). Matagorda is a much quieter place, the bars and restaurants are all in a small commercial center on the promenade so it's more laid back.

PdC however is much bigger and has a long strip of bars, clubs and restaurants and they're all looking to get you in, so it can actually be a hassel walking along. It used to be that you'd walk on the beach side of the road to avoid them, but I hear the promoters are on that side now. Either way, I found them pretty agressive in their approach.

Other resorts are Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise, both of which seem to be very family orientated. I've never stayed in either but I've been to both. Playa Blanca is pretty nice, well laid out and the beach is very nice. Plus there are ferries from Play Blanca to Corralejo in Fuerteventura if you fancy a day trip. The sea can be very rough once you reach open water though.

Likewise there's a small boat which goes from the port in PdC to Corralejo, it's a lot smaller and I am told you'll see flying fish and maybe dolphins on the crossing.

Thats sounds really good, gonna do a bit more research at the weekend and get a better picture of price etc. Thanks again for the help.

Egypt is good at that time of year. Sharm el Sheikh is lovely.

Egypt is lovely in october. Still warm but not roasting. Lots to do if you base yourself in Luxor.
