    Hi all,

I have a quick question regarding the dole, I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking for - hence the new thread! Sorry if this has been discussed before...

I had my meeting last Tuesday in my local SW office, and was given a temporary card (yellow cardboard) - the man I was dealing with said it would take 2-3 weeks before I receive a proper card, and that I must come in every 4 weeks to sign.

What I am unsure about is, am I able to claim now from the local post office with this temporary card, or do I have to wait the 2-3 weeks? I've tried calling all day to ask, but there has been no answer. Is there a certain day that I should claim by?

    Thanks for any help.

Have they told you already that you will be entitled to dole ? if you only had your meeting last week it's very unlikely that its been approved as usually people are waiting a few months to get there first payment,

Your best bet is to go to your local cw office and they will be able to set you up with money until it's been approved.

You can claim your social welfare with that yellow temporary card. The post office will accept it for a limited time (will say until when on the card)

You will need to take photo ID with you every week to post office until they stop asking or get to know your face. Even then they might ask every so often anyway.

You should usually collect your dole on the day stated but most will keep it until end of the week

You will get a letter in the post stating when your social welfare claim is approved and it will also give you the date to collect your money in post office. As gustafo has stated you can go to your community welfare officer in the interim and apply for supplementary welfare allowance.
