I'm coming home for a few week soon, I've got a Polish license (moved here years ago, did the test here since I knew I'd be staying), do i need the European driving license so I can drive my parents car or will the Polish one be ok?

    Thanks

Friends of mine are driving around no problem on european and dominican driving licences for at least a year and they've no problem. There's a list on the rsa (i think) website that lists what driving licences are exchangeable for irish ones, so if you're only here short term and on that list i'm sure you'll be ok

thanks, I'll look that up. Yea, I'm only home for a week so I'll only be driving up and down to the shops, but I don't want the cops stopping me. Might be a bit hard to explain why the name *insert very stereotypical Irish name* appears on a Polish license tho :D

Polish license is EU so you're covered. I'd let your insurer / insurer of the car you're driving know.

It has the benefit of any penalty points being given to the mysterious Polish driver prawo jazzy.

They only care if your name is Prawo Jazdy

I think you're meant to convert it if you're resident here for a certain amount of time, so if you can bring a recent letter with your Polish address on it.

You can drive on it until it expires or until the maximum validity of an Irish License (10 years) if foreign license has a longer validity.

You mean the insurer of his car in Poland?
    What for?

There won't be any problem at all with that.
The same story with me while my stereotypical Polish name appears on Irish licence. While in Poland, Polish cops never said a word.
