how many lessons did you get?

Ok my suggestions are going to sound a bit "new agey" but they do work.

Breathing is a main one. When driving (or any other stressful situation) your breathing speeds up and so does your heart rate and therefore stress. If you concentrate on slow deep breaths it'll calm you more. Try doing this before starting the test.

Creative visualisation is also a good technique. As in visualise yourself on the road doing the test and passing. If you can do it in your mind, why can't you do it on the road?

Rescue remedy is also handy to have!

    Hi

Well I had similar issues around nerves. These got worse with each test, as I had negative associations around the whole thing. I bought http://www.drivingtestangel.com for 10 sterling.

I'm not new age or anything, but I found it to be a very effective relaxation technique. Best of luck and sure let us know how you get on!

I'm not at the test taking stage yet, but I am very nervous on the roads. My instructor is excellent, despite the fact the I'd had hours of lessons on the real roads, he brought me back into private roads and started from scratch, showering me with praise every time I did something right. (but managed it without being patronising). Once I was back on the roads, I was much calmer and as a consequence a better driver.

Could you find a qualified instructor to take a similar approach with a pre-test that follows the route where your real test would be? Happy to PM you the contact details for my teacher but he's nowhere near Donegal.

No probs, say you would be fine with the 14.99 pack. It's gone up since I bought it a few months back. I only used the audio training program and that more than helped.

Don't see any need for the pdfs or anything. Just make sure you do it in a quiet room then you do it and you're not going to be disturbed.

Worked a treat in terms of helping me to look at the test in more confident and positive light. Best of luck!!

    Hi,

I have just passed my test today. I usually suffer from nerves in situations like the driving tests, I usually get sweaty hands which always made me worse. So I got myself some hand antiperspirant and it worked a treat, it is called Odaban. This may not be an issue for you at all just thought I would mention.

I also used this website for study before the test, the video tutorials cover almost every possible scenario that can come up in the test and all other areas of the test - signs, etc are also covered: http://www.drivingtesttips.ie/index.php

    Best of luck

i completely f***ed mine up the first time. annoyingly i did all the 'difficult' stuff fine i was just a bit edgy and kept makin bad calls, or rushing things. the second time i just remembered that in the end its just a piece of paper, just because you fail you wont be taken off the road, you just reapply and have another go.

then again i did mine before the restirctions where you could drive to the centre and fail/pass drive home again by yourself.

My advice is : Dont think about it as a test, imagine there is another instructor just sitting next to you.. and what will happen if you wont pass? Nothing -not the end of the world -you will only lose 80eu/
