Seeing as the WCs are approaching I thought I'd get a view of how you guys have seen the past championships.

So, top three events or highlights from Helsinki '83 to Berlin '09?

    Mine:

    1. Carl Lewis' world record performance in the 100 m 1991
    2. The 4x400m mens relay 1991; wow, what a race.
    3. 1991 mens long jump final

I know, all from the same meet, but those three just stand out big time for me

    Honorable mentions: Sonia's win in 1995; Bolts 100 metres Berlin 2009; Bolt's 200 metres win Berlin 2009;

I have to go with Bolt's 100 and 200m records at the 2009 championships. I know he's like the pin up of the athletics world now but the atmosphere before those two races was just incredible and not seen enough in athletics. (I wasn't there but just judging from the TV coverage alone it was incredible!!) :D

    1) France cutting down USA to win the womens 4 x 100m relay in Paris 2003 is the highlight for me. I was lucky enough to be in the stadium that night and never experienced an atmosphere like it since, in any sport.

    2) Michael Johnson 400m WR in Seville '99.

    3) Jonathon Edwards 18.29m in Gothenburg '95 has to be up there too.

Kris Akabusi overhauling the US 4 x 400m team in '91 and Coughlan in '83 too of course but they were before my time.

1983 - Eamon Coughlan turning the corner looking at the Russian and saying to himself "This one's mine";)

I always thought that was quite arrogant and disrespectful to his opponent.
Don't like to see that, at least not in track and field.

It may have been arrogant but don't agree that it was disrespectful. As a boxing moderator I am sure you come across this all the time in your sport so why is a bit of confidence out of place in track and field?

From an irish point of view you would have to agree that it has to be a top moment.

I just thought it was a little disrespectful. Of course in boxing this happens. But, this is track and field, and to me it doesn't belong, as such.

I know ther sprinters are that bit different, and do strut around like warriors going into heated battle. That is
the nature of that event. Mauruice Greene really brought this to the table. Others then followed.

BTW, yes, what a win and what confidence and power Eamon showed. It must have felt so so exilerating to know that
although you had run 4900 metres, it felt like you were on a lazy jog with so so much left in the tank.

My top moment, although not a good one, was seeing Sonia getting smoked be the Chinese express train in the '93 3000m. It was when I stopped believing and still is to me one of the best examples of the rot in all professional sports.

Long jump in '91 was my top good memory.

One of my top memories is the minute figure of Kim Collins coming out of lane one to shock everyone in Paris 2003. Just showing us little guys can suprise everyone:D

+1 Lewis was my idol when I was a kid and I wanted him to win so much. Was an incredible series of jumps he put together and still finished second.

    - Berlino the Bear
    - Susan Smith in 1997 brings back good memories. The first big success for Irish sprinting.
    - Carolina Kluft in 2003

    Bad moments:

    - Regina Jacobs and Sonia bust-up in 1997
    - Kelli White in 2003
    - Hayley Tullet running the race of her life in 2003 to get Bronze, and subsequently to find out she was beaten to gold by 2 drug cheats, Tomashova and Ayhan.
