Mysterious light in car...

    Hey,

So I got my date for driving test and was reading up on rules for it when I noticed it said that none of the warning lights should be on the dashboard. My airbag light comes on every time I drive, and has done so for months- is it meant to be on?? My car has just passed NCT and has been into a few garages getting the odd thing done and no one has ever remarked on it. Just don't want to be turned away over something small...am also hoping I haven't been risking my life unnecessarily the last few months! Thanks!

No, I don't think that it is supposed to! Wait for somebody who knows more than I do though, and if it's unusual, get a garage to look at it (the tester can refuse to take you out in a car that is displaying a warning light).

The only warning lights that come on as far as I know are the engine, oil, battery and parking brake lights as soon as you start the car, and then they go away.
(I remember starting a panicked thread here on the day of my first test because all of the above warning lights came on and stayed on when I turned the ignition on, without actually starting the engine [for checking headlights, etc.])

Yeah I think its meant to come on briefly when you start the engine but I drove for 40 minutes the other day and it stayed on the whole way. Have left a message for garage so hopefully they ring soon. I only got my test date yesterday and I'm really really nervous so this is not comforting news! Thanks!

I would think an airbag light would be enough of a reason for a test to be cancelled to be honest. I would get it checked out if i were you. What car is it? Make, model, year, engine etc?

99 Micra. Went to garage yesterday, mechanic fiddled around with the connections and light is off now, so I can relax a bit! Apparently the connections had come loose or something like that...

Are you sure he didn't just disable a valid warning light...?
