Swimming Portmarnock beach Distance markers

I have just recently started swimming on portmarnock beach have to say really enjoying it much more fun that up and down in the pool a lot more challenging getting bounced around in the surf but way more fun.

I would consider myself a beginner and therefore always swim parallel to shore so as not to get too far out of my depth.

The question I have is does any one have any rough distance markers to measure how far along the beach is say 200m 400m 600m etc.

So if you start at the steps and swim to the lifeguard hut it is X.

I know it is a bit tricky to say depending on what way the tides are etc. so not looking for an exact science......

Ideally I would like to work my way up to being able to swim 1k in open water realistically that will be this time next year but no rush.

Anyway I might just stride it out one of these evenings to see what I come up with but if anyone has already an idea that would be great thanks.
