Classic car with my Dad?

    Hi folks,

My Dad is on the look out for a classic car at the moment, will most likely be an old ford or Opel.

He has a protected NCB and 30 years driving experience so his classic insurance will most likely be fairly cheap.

I myself have 3 years full licence and 3 years NCB.

What way does classic insurance work? Can I go on the classic policy with him or would I have to pay full whack myself as I'm not over 25.

Both of us are big into cars but I couldn't afford paying full insurance on another car (already pay my own)

Is it a case of me having to sit happily as a passenger? :D

About €240 comp. additional drivers usually only over 25 are free. this is based on the insured having a main vehicle.

So you reckon I could be insured for a small fee?

Both myself and my dad have separate insurance on our own cars.

    Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm 21.

you'll struggle til you are 25 to get cover but having your own policy will help.

It'll still be expensive though I reckon even if you can find someone willing to add you to a calssic policy

You're probably right, I've been reading up on the whole under 25 thing and there really doesn't seem to be a way around it!

Feck, I'll just have to wait I guess :(

well you might be able to swop your own insurance on to it for the weekend or insure it as your main car...

I found AXA to be the most flexable when it comes to bending their rules on a few occasions, that was dealing in person in their Cork head office.

Does the insurance policy on your own car allow 3rd party cover to drive other cars?

No unfortunately not. I'm only 3rd party as is.

Thats the only way you will get to drive it.
Regular insurance companys won't insure or allow transfer of insurance to older vehicles
