    Hi All,

    I heard last night on RTE news that Germany & France are proposing a new Transaction Tax.

    Bascailly anything you buy or sell will be taxed as a new "Transaction Tax"
    They want to bring this in across the EU.

    Link = http://www.ctpost.com/news/article/U-S-stocks-fall-as-Germany-France-propose-2076229.php

    or if you type into Google - "germany and france propose new transaction tax"

    this was proposed in the past - 2009 but is now back on the cards it would appear.

    Don't we get taxed enough ? - a transaction tax lol
    isn't that what VAT is for ?

    Example - If I was to buy 50euro worth of Petrol. I would VAT on the petrol, on top of the carbon tax and then have to pay a transaction tax because I made a financial transaction with the petrol station.

    I think I have that right, if not please correct me.
    Mods - I couldn't find another thread on this but if there is one feel free to remove

    What are AH's thoughts on this new transaction tax proposal ?

    Financial transaction tax, on financial transactions like CFD's and CDO's etc. Not a consumption tax on every single transaction for buying petrol or biscuits ffs. You are corrected.

    I assume it'll be a hearty endorsement if I know AH even the slightest.

    At least the majority of AH posters will be happy.
