What if "Alive" happened to the Irish rugby team?

A morbid topic, but if something like that were to happen to the Irish rugby team, what would happen? I'd say the knock on effects would be huge, would the IRFU still try and field a team? I know it's a very unpleasant topic, but it just got me thinking when everyone seems to be ragging on Ireland's lack of squad depth...

Would never happen, Paul O Connell would just scare the plane into landing wherever he wanted it to :)

Tony Buckley would definitely be eaten first.

First? They wouldn't be able to finish eating him before they were rescued.

hmmm after checking the charter I'm not sure if cannibalism constitutes player abuse, but truthfully wtf lads.

Anyway while it remains tasteful, I'm going to leave this open if purely to break up some of the tension in the other threads

if nothing else it is the first thread in years to actually add something new to the sexton V o'gara debate

Sure tis probably him that would cause the crash......by moving from one side of the plane to the other.......or sneezing.

As in who would be eaten first? Well Sexton has a better running game so he'd be harder to catch, and Rog is older. But there'd probably be more eating in Sexton.

Also should Kidney give Murray a chance to be eaten, or should he stick with O'Leary? Its probably a bit too soon for Murray. Boss won't get picked anyway, he could cover himself in chocolate and roll around in sprinkles and marshmallows and Kidney wouldn't have a look at him. Typical anti-Leinster bias.

i think Murray needs to be tenderised for a few more years before he is ready to be eaten at that altitude

Maybe Humphreys would get a game.

  • Fionn Carr would still be ignored.

Fionn Carr would still be ignored.
He'd be the Gremlin from Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, out there on the wing, loosening parts and taking his revenge.

I'm assuming Victor Costello had the controls.

    Big meaty head on him.

Sorry I don't have a humorous input to make, but,

It is something I have wondered about before. Many company's do not allow more than a certain percentage of their board of directors travel on one plane, just in case it did crash etc.
Surely large sports teams are taking a huge risk every time the bundle all their assets (bit impersonal, sorry) onto a single flight. Whatever about a national team, but can you imagine if all the New York Yankees, or FC Barcelona or Leinster were all killed, management, coaching staff too. The entire entity would pretty much cease to exist immediately.
I am surprised their insurance policies allow it.

Wow, did I just turn a light hearted thread into a morbid one!

I'm assuming he point was if the plane going to the WC crashes who will line out for Ireland.

    Assuming
    Healy Ross Hayes Court
    Flannery Best Cronin
    POC DOC Cullen Ryan
    SOB Heaslip Wallace Ferris Leamy

    TOL Redden Boss
    Sexton ROG
    D'arcy O'Driscoll Wallace
    Bowe Trimble Earls
    Kearney Jones

the above are involved in the crash who will we send in a second WC squad.

    Wilkinson, Hagan, Buckley, Horan
    Varley, Sherry, Brady
    MOD, McCarthy, Toner, Tuohy
McLaughlin, Jennings, Ruddock, Dom Ryan, Diack, Muldoon

    Murray, Stringer, F Murphy
    Keatley, Humphries
    McFadden, Spence, Cave
    Fitzgerald, Carr, Horgan
    G Murphy, Duffy

The above would be my second squad to send to the WC. The cupboard is rather bare in some positions, I'd be patricularly worried about halfbacks, props, and hookers. No 3rd OH bu what can you do.

with more than a nod to Stevo_o (Bill Hicks to my Denis Leary)

    ... news reporters voice...
Crash investigators looking into the tragedy have been surprised to find evidence that all 4 props went down at the same time, pulling each other down.
A spokesperson for international referees said that this has always been a risk, and reiterated calls for yet more pre-flight safety checks and also highlighted problems with the wings.

Paddy wallace would get eaten first, despite there being absolutely no meat on him, and nobody considering him tasty.

Especially at this time of year though, can you imagine the knock-on strain that'd have on the provinces? They'd have to release a lot of their players, then get more from academy, from clubs etc.

Didn't that happen to an ice hockey team from LA during 9/11? Remember seeing something about that on the news back then

Well, there'd certainly be some sparse Irish provincial teams lining up for this weekends PRO12!

    OP.
    LOL.
    WTF?

    That is all.

I'm sure some of the lads on the team browse this forum - quite possibly the biggest WTF moment in their careers.

Bigger question - would the world cup still be played if something like this happened. Realistically we wouldn't field another team and at least one group would be short as a result. I think out of respect / shock it would be hard to continue with the tournament.
