Old coin - value?

I have an old coin, dated 1816. It's damaged (seems slightly squashed) but the date can clearly be made out. It also says "Britain" or something like that on it, with some sort of crest on the back of it. I'd be more specific but I don't have the coin beside me. If anyone wants details, just ask.

I'm just wondering if it would have any value and if so, roughly what would it be?

Just to add to that, here's what it says in a clockwise order:

    "BRITT.RF.X F.D: 1816 GEOR.III D.G:"

Note: I may be confusing the "E"'s for "F.". It's difficult to tell whether it's "F." or "E".

The above is the writing which lines the outside of the coin (which is pretty small) and there's some damage to the exterior of the coin which makes it difficult to read in certain places. In the centre of this side of the coin is a picture of a face from a side view, the face has curly hair and appears to be in a little pony-tail (or something like it) at the back.

The back of the coin is more worn. I can only make out certain letters and that would simply be my own interpretation - I could be wrong. There is definitely a crest of some sort on this side but again, it's difficult to make out what's in the crest.

I'm guessing the value is much lower than it would have been had it been in perfect condition. I'm trying to upload a picture but not having much success.

A quick google brought this up: http://islandnet.com/~kpolsson/coins/uk/uk1s1816.jpg

That's the same coin as mine, but mine is in poor condition. Is it worth anything at all?

Looks like you have a George III shilling, this guy says that in fine ('F') condition it's worth 8 pounds sterling but by the sound of it your specimen wouldn't even come up to that standard so it's probably only worth the intrinsic value of the silver.

'Fine' he defines elsewhere as: Worn over whole area, but only the highest spots are worn completely through.

'F.D.' stand for 'Fidei Defensor', Latin for 'Defender of the Faith' the title ironically given to Henry VIII by the Pope, UK coins still show F.D. to this day.

'Rex' is Latin for 'King' and 'D.G.' stands for 'Deo Gratias', Latin for 'Thanks be to God'.
