Does anybody know anything about this race? Is it worth doing?
I want to do a sprint this weekend & can't decide on this or the Lough Ree Monster. This would be very handy for me as I could stay in my mothers place in Clare on Friday night. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in for it but I've never done it before. A few of my friends have done it and said it's a nice relaxed tri, fairly small. The swim should be fine, it's in the shannon but the current on that stretch of river isn't bad, don't know anything about the cycle or run I'm afraid, except that the run should be fairly flat.

Going to take part in the try-a-tri part of this at the weekend, will be my first attempt at something like this.
I'm a complete newbie to this so this may sound silly -
Would i have the shorts and t-shirt underneath my wetsuit and ready for the cycle or should i just have some under armour and out the shorts and t-shirt on when im at the transition?

I usually just wear my cycle shorts under the wetsuit and throw my t shirt when i get to the bike. depends on the material of the t-shirt i guess but you're not going to lose much time by throwing on a t-shirt.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually very familiar with the cycle route especially the road from BirdHill to Montpellier. I take that road when I'm visting my Mother as a shortcut to East Clare. It's not a good road at all, small, narrow, bumpy with plenty of hills so it will be the toughest part of the cycle. The rest of the cycle should be fine especially on the old Dublin road. I won't be doing it though as I got back from training last night with the intention of signing up but race entry closed at 9pm. So I signed up for the Lough Ree Monster instead as their race entry didn't close until today. Best of luck with it, maybe ye will report back next week to tell us what it was like.

Thanks, as its my first one I'm not too caught up on time, more the ability to complete it and not finish last! Looking forward to it...wonder if I'll get the bug for them after this

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves today, perfect weather for it. One minor complaint is they ran out of water at the finish but the chocolate cake in the community hall made up for it!

What did you think of the cycle route?

Fine, slightly hilly from 10k to 15k but not too challenging. It's a nice tri, I'll look to do it again next year.

Yeah, it was my first one, I did the shorter swim. Thought it was a good setup and quite enjoyable. Results are all up here http://www.triathlonireland.com/index.php?id=107&nid=446

Pity they don't have the transition times up.
