00 Punto not taking "pedal"

    How do,

A friend of mine has a 00 Punto that will start fine and idle fine but when you press the accelerator is just dies and splutters. He put in a new pedal (apparently there's electrical or something) and a new fuel rail and it hasn't solved the problem.

    I haven't seen the car but I'm assuming it's a 1.2.

+1 for coil pack, also worth a look at the fuel pump and fuel filter. Tell him dont go on changing everything before diagnosing the fault.

If idles fine, then shouldn't be coilpacks. When accelerate, it means more fuel goes in inlet manifold than air, and dies, there is too much fuel,.... id say worth check throttle... maybe need good strip and clean, then check throttle position sensor and look at the air sensor. Get similar car, and change those sensors over just to check.

If it's an electronic throttle body (i.e. no cable, fly-by wire) I'd check around its base for air leaks, and if that is ok, it may need an adaptation run with a scan tool.

Incidentally, did that car overheat recently or have a timing belt changed??
