Gonna give this one a go seeing as the Dublin Half is on the same morning as the Ireland-Australia game.

Less travel too which is always a bonus.

Looks like a fairly flat course so will be good indicator for DCM.

Does anyone knwo what the story is with water sataions, i.e how many, what locations, botles or cups?

    Thanks,
    Dev

Water Stations are expected at Miles 3, 6 and 10. We are trying to secure a local sponsor to provide small bottles of water. We are confident that we have this sorted, but need to confirm.

I can confirm 1st Man and 1st Woman will receive a Top Cash Prize of 500 Euro each. Cash Prizes for 2nd through 6th amounts yet to be determined, but they will be very reasonable. Cash Prizes also for several Age Categories + Wheelchair category. Also a reasonable Cash Prize for 1st Team home. I hope this helps.

I'm looking forward to trying this as it will be my first Half Marathon! Does anyone know if there will be Pacers for this event?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭Redtop

No Pacers confirmed yet, but we are talking to another local club to help with this. There will be mile markers, so bring a watch to determine your average pace per mile. Regards

There are several members of the organising committee running the complete course tomorrow so that we can get a proper feel for the course and identify any issues that need to be addressed. We will be better able to plan the stewarding & road safety after running it ourselves. We'd like to thank all of those who have entered already. We appreciate your support and early entry. Only 4 weeks to go now, so if you have not entered already, time is starting to run out. Regards

Just wondering if anybody had an update on the water and pacers for this half?

The answers to these and other questions are on the runireland page for this race :

    http://www.runireland.com/events/charleville-half-marathon-hm-relay-2-3-or-4-person-team

    In summary, we have Pacers for 7, 8 & 9 Min/mile paces.

    Water Stations at miles 3.2, 6.5, 9.9 & Finish (bottles & cups).
The 3.2 and 9.9 mile markers are at the same junction (Thomastown Crossroads). This will also be a Transition Point for Team Relays.
Mile Marker 6.5 is close to Kilmallock Church (roughly the half way point).

Just 10 Days left, so get your Entry in asap. Just a few T-Shirts left for the First 300 Individual Entries.

    Hi Redtop,
I have entered as of late last night. By any chance, do you know if there is T-Shirts left?

    Thanks

There were 292 Entries first thing this morning, so it looks like you just got in before we hit the 300 mark. At the rate Entries are coming in, we should be close to 400 by Race Day.

The Muster Running website has a review of the course here and it points out that it should be a flat course due to the proximity of the route to Cork - Dublin rail line.

There is also a Map My Run profile here which doesn't look too taxing.

I ran this race this morning and I posted a respectable new PB of 2.03 on my own watch. Just waiting for chip time.
I have to say it was a very well organised event. Good flat course and great support throughout. The marshalling was top class and the spread at the end was plentiful !
I hope this becomes an annual event.

totally agree about the marshalling and race organisation. plenty of water in very handy small sports bottles as well. So a big thanks to all the volunteers.
Like to say thanks to the 2 pacers for 2 hours who did a great job. It set me up nicely after the 1st hour so i could "charge on" for a PB of 1.56.

great course for a pb. well marshalled, only complaint-no showers. not sure why as we had access to clubs dressing room.

As with most events which are organised and ran by clubs it was top notch from start to finish. As it says on the tin the "‎"The Flattest, Straightest & Fastest" Half Marathon in Ireland" and is a definite PB course. I will return next year and hopefully make a better stab at it.

The shower situation is one of those things that can happen, they had a plumbing/electrical issue in the building which they could not resolve.

The support from people doing the relays at the change over point was brilliant especially the third changeover.

A point that the organisers may need to consider is that the start is narrow and while it was not an issue today it would be one if there where more participants..

Great race yesterday. Well marshalled. Locals out in support all along the route. Water in bottles which is always a plus. I didn't stay for the spread afterwards as I had to head away but the reports seem positive.

The course has PB written all over it. It was windy yesterday on the way back in to Charleville but they are no major hills at all on the course.

As Ger mentioned the support at the relay change overs was great. The start was a bit of a muddle with people starting on the registration side of the footpath. I think once the 2 hour pacer moved over people followed and it was a bit more orderly. A few more barriers at the start would sort that out.

The race is the perfect indicator for anyone training for the Dublin marathon. I will definitely be returning next year and I hope this event grows and grows. One thing that might help this is a change of date. The Dublin half was on the day before (Saturday) which might have affected numbers. Not sure by how many but I'm sure it wouldn't have helped.

The availability of Stewards/Marshalls was planned well in advance. Many of the organising committee had ran the course several times themselves over the last few weeks, keeping an eye out for every possible hazard. Local volunteers were recruited to take care of their own patch and we really appreciate the response we got from residents who lived next to the route.

Regarding Showers - North Cork AC originally did not commit to having showers, as we knew that the local facilities could not cope with the number of runners. They are used to dealing with a just a GAA team, not 500 runners. There may have been showers available for the early finishers, but the water ran out very quickly. Sorry, but there was nothing we could do about that.

Catering was also planned well in advance with great support from local businesses and many hours spend by North Cork AC club members, friends and extended families in preparing the food.

We thought we had enough water with 800 bottles procured but we found out very quickly that we would be short at the 3rd water station (which doubled as the first water station also) so one of the committee members bought an additional 250 bottles and drove them to the water station before the returning runners arrived.

In total, we had 120 volunteers staffing the event, many of whom double-jobbed in Registration & Catering, so credit goes to them for the event running so smoothly.

We appreciate all the comments, as we can certainly learn from them.
