IMO: Discharge, then charge. It's already been charged by MFR

do what says in the documentation

NiCad / NiMH suffered memory effects, but only if you discharged to the exact same amount repeatedly like the solar panels on a satellite being shaded by the earth in a predictable orbit. no need to discharge them unless you are trying to reform them.

Lithium don't suffer memory effect so usually they say do a full charge. They last longer when cool. For long term storage leave charged at 40%

I'd reckon do a fullish discharge at least once a month on most battery types.

If running windows a full charge is one way of getting the software to calibrate 100% at whatever is in the battery. It don't make the battery battery better it just sets 100% to the last full charge.
Or if using linux acpi -i will tell you the design capacity of you battery and the capacity of the last full charge.

    hey

didn't want to start a new thread, just wondering, got a new laptop battery there and I want to make it last as long as possible. When it's fully charged should I take it out of the laptop altogether if it's on the mains? Or should I just use the battery everytime it fills up?
